Hello! I'm Miguel Alvim. My passion for technology has taken me from the Azores Islands to the world of consulting, entrepreneurship, and corporate leadership. Here's my story...

All Started on an Island…

I was born in the Azores Islands, Portugal, a group of nine islands lost in the Atlantic Ocean between Lisbon and New York. Though I spent a few early years in Lisbon, I was fortunate to enjoy most of my childhood in the Azores, surrounded by nature and beaches.

First Encounter with Technology

My passion for technology began with my first personal computer, a Sinclair ZX81, quickly upgraded to the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. At the age of 11, I discovered the world of programming and was captivated by what could be achieved using BASIC as a programming language.

University Days

I attended the University of Minho, which was then the most prestigious university in Portugal, to study Computer Engineering. The university was always at the forefront of educational trends. For instance, I learned Programming Paradigms using Java, a language only two years old at the time. Moreover, we had access to the best internet facilities in Portugal.

Consulting Journey

I joined Accenture in Madrid, Spain, knowing little more than "Hola" and "Adiós" in Spanish. During this period, I still needed to complete my end-of-course internship to graduate, which I did as a regular employee (thank you, Accenture). It was an immense learning experience, not just due to the cultural shift but also because of the chance to work with top companies globally.

Entrepreneurial Endeavors

After my time in consulting and working in large corporations, I realized I needed new experiences to keep learning and stay updated with the latest trends and technologies. I had to step out of my comfort zone. 

Thus, I embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, founding two companies—one in the health sector and another in marketing. During this period, I worked hard, made mistakes, learned from them, and celebrated successes. It was an incredible experience…

Returning to Corporate Life

Remember how I mentioned working hard? I got so absorbed in my work that taking a break felt impossible. This became a real issue for me and my family. Unable to enjoy holidays or disconnect, I chose to leave my entrepreneurial path and return to the corporate world, carrying with me the valuable lessons and experiences I had gained.
